Washington, D.C. 2016

United Methodist buildingWashington, D.C., 2016 is an opportunity for high school youth to visit the hub of decision-making in our country, reflect on our American identity, and think about the ways our faith as Christians impacts our response to both.

Three days with The United Methodist General Board of Church and Society (GBCS) in the historic United Methodist Building (see photo at right) will equip and encourage the teens to engage issues of our modern world in more than superficial or “quick-fix” ways. Our youth will learn about systems that contribute to injustice and about the wide variety of means by which they, using their own unique gift sets, can let their voices be heard.
In addition to the GBCS Seminar, participants will have ample time for touring. Here are a few items on our itinerary:
  • Arlington National Cemetery
  • Historic Jamestown or Colonial Williamsburg
  • Holocaust Museum
  • July 4th on the National Mall and fireworks (if weather and circumstances permit)
  • Participants' choice of monuments, museums, and other attractions
The group will travel by Bales, Unlimited, chartered bus, departing from the United Methodist Center in Springfield, IL, at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, and returning to Springfield on Saturday, July 9, mid-morning.
The group will stay in dormitory style lodging at Hostelling International D.C.  For more information on HI visit Hostelling International D.C.
