Fairview Heights planting church in Honduras

Fairview Heights Christ UMC is working with Bishop Palmer, Bishop Elias Galvan and Honduran Superintendent Juan Gurrereo to plant the first United Methodist church in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Senior Pastor Shane Bishop, Administrative Council Chair Ben Belvin and ministry leaders Marvin Steinke and Brian Safarian traveled to Honduras last week to meet the newly appointed Pastor Jonathan and dream about the future partnership. Rev. Bishop first visited San Pedro Sula in 1985 and has dreamed of a United Methodist congregation in the city. "We have tried and tried to get this thing going since 2005 and at the very moment we gave up, God opened the door!" Formal ministry began in the still unnamed congregation on Jan.  1. Fairview Heights Christ also has a sister congregation in the Philippines.
