The church was organized in 1862 with its first location at Seventh and Mason Streets in Springfield. The Nast Memorial was built in 1889 and named in honor of Rev. William Nast, founder of the German Methodists in this country. The stone church was erected on the corner of Seventh and Adams in Springfield. The congregation joined with Springfield First in 1925 and Nast Memorial was no longer used as a Methodist church. In 1967 the building was purchased by the Illinois Church Council in 1939 and used as its headquarters until 1967 when it then sold to the State of Illinois. The building was razed March 1969 and the cornerstone was donated to the Conference in April. |
