Rev. Deickens organized the Alexander MEC in June 1863 at a school house in Alexander. In 1865 trustees were selected in order to build a church. It was completed in 1865 at a cost of $4,000 and dedicated by Hiram Buck. In 1870 Alexander became part of the Franklin Circuit. During the 19th century, Alexander had both appointed and supplied pastors, the supplied pastors were from Island Grove. In 1913 the church burned. On Nov 5, 1913 the cornerstone for the new modern church was laid and the building dedicated the following April. In October 1937, this church also burned. Worship services were continued at the high school. The new building was not dedicated until April 1944 as funds were hard to raise during WW2.
In 1891 an Epworth League was formed.
In 2002, the members voted to close the church. The last service was held June 1, 2003. |
