The Testimony of One

John 4:39-42

Many Samaritans from that city believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, ‘He told me everything I have ever done.’ So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them; and he stayed there for two days. And many more believed because of his word. They said to the woman, ‘It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the Saviour of the world.’

The Testimony of One

When I read these verses, they remind me of the first time I started to truly believe in Jesus as my Saviour. At that time, even though I had been attending a campus church and other churches near my house for more than five years, I was not really sure if I truly believed in God or not. I had never joined a Bible study or had a chance to share other Christians’ testimony.

What I had been doing as a Christian was attending a church on Sundays. It was when I visited a church where my friend’s husband worked as an assistant pastor that I saw the joyful smiles of faith in Jesus on the faces of the people who were professing their testimony during the service. I wondered how they experienced such joy and peace from their belief in God and I really wanted to join them in believing in Jesus as my Saviour.

I asked the pastor, who is my friend’s husband, how I could truly believe in God. He told me that the only way to truly know Jesus and believe in him is through the Word of God, which He says are the beginning of the World. Thus, I started to join the group of parishes of the church studying the bible and sharing their testimonies together.

Finally, I could meet and know Jesus through the Word in the Bible, experience the joy and peace through communication with him in my quiet time and prayers that I offered every day. Now I know that a testimony can be the beginning of belief in Jesus for those who do not know him, but the only way they can truly believe in Jesus is to communicate with him themselves through the Word and through prayer.

Dear God, thank you for your choosing and loving us as your children. Please give us the chance to truly know and meet Jesus through the Word we reflect and our daily prayers, believe in him as our Saviour, and witness his love through our lives. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
