Director of Faith Formation

Laurel United Methodist Church in Springfield, Illinois is seeking a full-time Director of Adult Faith Formation. This position is responsible for guiding adult faith formation through various means, including education, volunteer and mission opportunities.

Responsibilities include identifying and responding to growth potential; developing, training and supporting leaders, including adult education teachers; recruiting and coaching volunteers; overseeing church activities on Sunday mornings; serving as liaison to various lay committees; and supporting the directing pastor as needed.

Skills required: experience teaching adults, preferably in a Christian education setting; excellent organizational skills; a proficiency in written and verbal communication; skilled in using Microsoft Office; Biblical literacy and theology; leadership, delegation and motivational skills; and the ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualities required: the ability to inspire, encourage and engage individuals and build and nurture relationships; be a visionary; have a positive attitude and a willingness to contribute as a team member; and possess wisdom, sensitivity and tact. Spiritual gifts of administration, leadership, and discernment are very important.
