Pastoral HistoryVoting Code: 1518
Ordained Elder: 1999
Serving: Geneseo: First-Cambridge Multi-site
Relevant Leadership Roles: BOM, Mentor Training, and CDT. The UMC must find a comprehensive solution to our divisions at GC2016 so we can rebuild trust and refocus on mission and ministry. To that end, I have authored major proposals for amicable unity (www.jurisdictionalsolution.org ). These Jurisdictional Solutions have received support from across the theological spectrum, including, according to Christianity Today, acceptance by major names in church renewal. A committed evangelical in the Wesleyan tradition, I support legislation that creates space for divergent visions of ministry to play out under the UMC umbrella without altering our official positions in ways that would further divided us.
Experience: I have led several churches in major expansion, including the growing Geneseo-Cambridge Multisite that is launching a new IGRC congregation in the Quad Cities. My travels with the UMC have taken me to Italy, Costa Rica, Liberia, and Guinea.
Other: M.Div. magna cum laude Candler, ’97, D.Min. with distinction, Perkins ’08. Becky and I are the proud parents of four young adults.
Passions: Evangelism, church history, and the UMC work in Guinea.
Personal Statement: I would like to think that I have worked as hard as any UM on the issues currently facing our church while remaining open to new and faithful approaches that might emerge as we conference. I would appreciate your support. You can read my thoughts on a variety of UMC topics at www.peopleneedjesus.net .
