Admin/Biog History According to the McDonough County history, Rev. David Carter organized Pennington Point at the home of John Greenup in New Salem Township. It was one of the oldest Methodist churches in the county.
The first church building was erected in 1856 with another building in 1876. The second building was damaged by a tornado a few years later but was repaired and moved to another site south of the cemetery. In 1943 a fire destroyed the building. The congregation bought and moved a church from the Bethany Free Methodists in Eldorado Township.

The church closed in 1968.
