Admin/Biog History The MEC of Mt. Sterling began when the Rushville Circuit was formed in 1832 that included the territory of Brown County. Regular circuit preaching began a year later with circuit riders Peter Cartwright, T. N. Talston, Peter Boring, W. H. Window and others. The first Methodists in Mount Sterling had no Methodist preaching until 1837. In 1840 the congregation built their first church, followed by a parsonage in 1852. The Mount Sterling Circuit included many churches between 1877 and 1904 when the circuit named changed to Buckhorn Charge. Mount Sterling UMC continues today a vibrant active church.
