Unused postcard. Caption on reverse: Philip Embury. Born in Ireland of German Palatines this tall schoolmaster and lay preacher came to New York in 1760 bringing his Methodist Class from Ballingrane, Ireland, nucleus for the first permanent society of American Methodism, organized 1766. He was the first preacher at Wesley Chapel, which is now John St. Methodist Church. |
