MARION -- Helen L. Cole, 94, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at Angel Acres in Marion surrounded by her loving son and daughter-in-law.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Herrin.
Helen was born July 2, 1920 in Glendale, Ill., to Clyde E. and Lola M. (Maynor) Klink.
Helen was united in marriage with Roy J. Cole on Jan. 4, 1942 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. In 1947, Roy was called into the ministry and she assisted him during those years. After retirement, she enjoyed sending cards and praying for those who called. Together, they shared 52 years of marriage until he passed away Aug. 12, 1994.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her precious family, son and daughter-in-law, David R. and Treva Cole of Marion; two granddaughters, Bethany (Scott) Montgomery of Marion, Lauren Cole of Marion; two fabulous great-granddaughters, Madelyn Montgomery and Abigail Montgomery; cousin, Betty Jo Schweitzer of Peoria. Also many many dear friends, a “special” sister and “Miss Sunshine."
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and aunts, uncles.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home, 2704 S. Park, Herrin, with Rev. Jim Slone officiating. Interment will be in Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested and may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 301 South 16th Street, Herrin, IL 62948, or to Beulah Holiness Camp; and will be accepted at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home, P. O. Box 2071, Herrin, IL 62948.
