Harold Bodeen

Reverend Harold Quentin Bodeen, 91, of Mahomet a former Paxton resident, passed away quietly at 6:36 p.m on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Carle Hospital in Urbana.

He was born April 2, 1922, in Lynn Center, Illinois, the last of 8 children of Frank and Lydia Shult Bodeen. He graduated from Alpha High School in 1940. On November 7, 1942, he married Lois Maxine Peterson of North Henderson. They farmed in that area until he was called to the ministry of the United Methodist Church in August, 1953.

He and Lois Maxine served Illinois churches in Henderson, Eliza, Smithshire, Pekin, Mahomet, Conference Council in Bloomington, Casey and Paxton, retiring in 1987. He graduated Cum Laude from Monmouth College in 1961. He was given the Paxton Golden Deeds Award in 1985, served as treasurer of the Paxton Rotary Club. He and Lois Maxine were chosen Ford County and Illinois Volunteers of the Year in 1994. He enjoyed woodworking and travelled to England, Sweden, Denmark and the Holy Land. After retirement, he and Lois Maxine counseled and mentored young ministers and their wives for 10 years. In 2000 they moved to Mahomet. Lois Maxine went to be with the Lord on April 26, 2007.

On April 19, 2009, he and Lois Ann Winger joined their lives to the glory of God at the Paxton United Methodist Church.

He leaves his wife, Lois Ann; 3 daughters: Elaine (Philip) Jones of Mahomet, Shari (Bill) MacFarlane of Boca Raton, Florida, and Anne (Peter) Durst of Wheaton; two sisters-in-law, Irene Bodeen of Louisville, Kentucky and Alice Peterson of Galesburg, Illinois; 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Lois Ann's family includes Glen Winger of San Lorenzo, California, Susan(John) McCabe of Pekin, Jean(Garry) Cantzler of El Dorado Hills, California, and Linda(Gene) Miller of Bayles Lake, Illinois; 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Mahomet United Methodist Church, 1302 E. South Mahomet Rd, Mahomet with Reverend John McIntosh officiating. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. in Glen Cemetery, Paxton.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 14, 2014, from 3-7:00 p.m. at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells Street, Paxton with Masonic rites at 6:30 p.m. by Paxton Masonic Lodge #416 AF&AM. There will also be a visitation Saturday from 1-3:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
