SPIRITUAL AND EMOTIONAL CARE TEAM TRAINING ANNOUNCED:
Two types of Spiritual and Emotional Care Team trainings will be taking place at the United Methodist Center on May 22 & 23. Rev. Mary Hughes Gaurdreau, an UMCOR Consultant, will be leading the trainings.
Spiritual and Emotional Care team members are deployed along with Early Response Teams to provide support to church staff, clergy, early responders and those directly affected by the disaster event. These trained individuals provide spiritual and emotional support as we work together to "do no harm". Spiritual and emotional support is needed within the immediate disaster aftermath and during the post disaster period.
There is a need for additional trained people within the boundaries of Illinois Great Rivers Conference. If God is calling you to help during a time of disaster, yet you don't have the physical ability to help with the actual removal of debris, this training might be where you may contribute your time and talents. Caring, professional and skilled listening is essential. This training will also equip you to recognize fatigues and give strategies for self-care that is essential for spiritual care providers.
Trainings that are being offered are as follows:
May 22nd beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending by 5:30 p.m. will be for all NEW Care Team members. The cost is $20.00 for background checks, lunch and materials.
May 23rd beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending by 2:00 p.m. will be for both new and experienced IGRC Care Team Leaders. The training costs $10.00 for lunch & materials. IGRC Care Team Leaders previously trained are encouraged to attend this training for updated information regarding some National VOAD (Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster) and UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) regulations.
If you would like to be a part of the IGRC Care Team and are willing to out and serve in the midst of disasters (i.e. tornadoes, floods, etc.) please register for these trainings.
PLEASE NOTE -- DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATIONS IS MAY 15th
