Bishop's Statement on school shooting in Parkland, Fla.
2/15/2018
Our hearts are once again saddled with the burden of pain and grief due to the tragic school shooting in Parkland, Florida. We lack the words to reflect the disbelief, frustration, anger and sense of loss brought about by this act of violence.
We unite our hearts in prayers for the victims, their families, and for the entire Parkland Community. We pray for those charged with the responsibility of treating, investigating and dealing with the effects of this unfortunate event. We pray for the communities of faith that are ministering in this difficult situation. We pray for all casualties, both seen and unseen, of this and all other acts of violence.
I encourage pastors and churches to offer opportunities for others to unite in prayers of support and solidarity. I strongly encourage us to be in dialogue with one another about being instruments of peace and conduits of grace and mercy. I invite the IGRC family of laity and clergy to offer moments of prayers in our Worship services, Sunday Schools, Small Group Fellowships and any other gatherings deemed appropriate.
Once more we turn our attention to the process of healing and recovery understanding that only the healing virtue that flows from the heart of Christ can sooth this pain. Please join me in praying for Parkland Florida and for our world; “Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.”
