Who should participate?

  • Teams of persons from congregations/charges with cross-cultural appointments
  • A team is the pastor and a minimum of three laypersons from each congregation

What will I learn?

  • Explore our understanding of the meaning of culture
  • Identify commonalities, difficulties, joys and celebrations of cultural diversity
  • Inspiring, guided Bible Study
  • Cultural assessment exercises
  • Respectful communication guidelines
  • Shared stories and community-building skills
  • Grow in faith together

Time commitment:  This training will be offered at two different times. 
October 25th, 1:00-6:30 p.m. at Peoria University UMC, N University St, Peoria, IL 61604-2610
October 26th, 9:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at Effingham Centenary UMC, 203 E Grove Ave, Effingham, IL 62401-3835

Speaker: Rev. Michelle Ledbetter from the Washington, D.C. office of GCORR (General Committee on Race and Religion). As a Director of Program Ministries, Michelle crafts and facilitates initiatives focusing on the Institutional Equity priority of GCORR’s Ministry Model. She works to help all levels of the connection create the beloved community with systems, policies, and processes that level the playing field for everyone.
