Prospect United Methodist Church in Dunlap, Illinois seeks to fill a part-time position responsible for overseeing all aspects of music ministry. Evening and weekend hours will be required. Reporting directly to the Pastor, the Music Coordinator and Choir/Bells Director will develop, lead and coordinate all music ministries to our congregation and our community.

Position: Music Coordinator and Choir/Bells Director
Employment Status: Part Time (10-15 hours per week)
Pay: $12,000 - $15,000 per year (depending on experience)
Responsible Duties (But not limited to):
In cooperation with the Pastor and other members of the music ministry, plan music for all services including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Organize and assist a comprehensive music program for all ages
  • Organize, rehearse and direct (or supervise the direction of) the Adult Choir, Handbells and Children and Youth Choir
  • Organize and coordinate music for worship including anthems, special music and hymns, especially during summer months and on other Sundays when choir is not singing/leading.
  • Lead music on Sunday service and special services including but not limited to Christmas Eve, Holy Week, etc.
  • Assist and collaborate with the Pastor and Worship Committee on the selection of music
  • Oversee all services and music groups, ensuring team members have all they require
  • Support Contemporary Worship Leader for the 525 Service
  • Cultivate and recruit new musicians
  • Expand the outreach of the church through events like concerts, special performances, etc.
  • Prepare and manage an annual budget, in cooperation with the Finance Committee
  • Purchase music and ensure maintenance on musical instruments
  • Work with Audio, Visual and Lighting personnel for all worship services
  • Manage subscriptions and licensing where appropriate
Ideal Qualifications:
  • Demonstrates musical talent and experience in vocal and or instrumental performance
  • Experience in performance and leading in music
  • Professed relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to UMC/Wesleyan teachings
  • Adheres to the Mission, Vision, Values of PUMC
  • Knowledge of the history, beliefs and musical customs of the UMC
  • Bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent musical training and experience
  • Strong leader and team player with great collaborative and relational skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with adults, youth, and children
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
Preferred Experience:
  • Piano/Organ: 5 years (Preferred)
  • Handbell Choir: 1 Year (Preferred)
  • Choir Director: 5 Years (Preferred)
