SUMMARY:  The Director of Children and Family Ministries is responsible for the development and implementation of the vision, strategy, and day-to-day elements of all aspects of Children and Family Ministries. Specifically, the Director of Children and Family Ministries is responsible for Nursery through 5th grade, family activities/outreaches, and childcare programming during church functions and events.                       
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The position involves the following essential functions, duties and required activities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable persons with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
1.    Christian Education
  1. Inspire the spiritual life of children and families through various opportunities for Christian growth, education, and nurture.
  2. Establish a comprehensive, age-appropriate plan for spiritual development for Nursery – 5th grade children
  3. Oversee fun, exciting, Christ-centered kids programs and family ministry events consistent with First United Methodist Church’s overall mission
  4. Maintain healthy relationships and consistent communication with parents
  5. Coordinate with other ministries to advance FUMC’s mission
  6. Evaluate and report outcomes to the Directing Pastors and relevant church committees.
 
2.  Family Ministry
  1. Create programs or ministries where families can grow in faith and have fun together.
  2. Support families as they teach children about faith in their homes.
 
3.    Management and Administration
  1. Cultivate highly motivated, passionate, well-trained children’s ministries volunteers through recruitment, screenings, guidelines, and trainings.
  2. Develop, implement, and maintain critical processes to ensure safety.
  3. Maintain a database of children and families at FUMC
  4. Develop and manage a Children and Family Ministries budget
 
4.  Leadership & Development
  1. Actively participate in church strategic planning meetings, Education Committee meetings, and other committees that might wish to collaborate and support Children and Family Ministries.
  2. Stay abreast of current developments and best practices related to children and family ministries.
 
5. General Responsibilities.
1. Attend weekly staff meetings.
2. Report incidents of suspected fraud or concerns about grossly inappropriate behavior to the Directing Pastors. In the event of suspected misconduct of the Directing Pastor(s), reports should be made to the Chair of the Staff/Parish Relations Committee.
3. Such other and further duties as the Directing Pastors may assign.
 
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  1. Passionate for ministry with children and families and seeing both grow in faith
  2. Understands, supports, and protects FUMC’s mission, values and culture
  3. Significant experience with children birth through fifth grade
  4. Energetic, dynamic and relationally-oriented with children of all ages and their parents
  5. Leader with an encouraging, upbeat, positive attitude
  6. Strong interpersonal skills able to maintain healthy, motivating relationships with Pastors, coworkers, and volunteers
  7. Ability to work cooperatively as a team member with church staff and members. Ability to organize efficiently, establish priorities and attend to details.
  8. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  9. Ability to speak and act in a manner that is consistent with Christian principles. 
  10. Willingness and ability to act as a servant leader to meet the needs of First United Methodist Church and its members and guests.
  11. Willingness to work varying hours and days, including occasional Sundays and occasionally travel around the community to companies and organizations.
 
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required, related field preferred
