The Kitchen Team Member position with East Bay Camp and Retreat Center involves being part of the hospitality team to provide excellent Christian hospitality and food service to camp and retreat guests. Responsibilities include carrying out menus, food preparation, serving meals, washing dishes, cleaning and maintaining food service and dining areas, doing laundry, extending hospitality, responding to guest needs, assisting with summer programs, communicating with management, and ensuring a safe environment.

JOB SUMMARY:

Function as a part of the hospitality team, to ensure camp and retreat guests experience Christian hospitality within the dining hall and through the food service program.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Food Service 
• Carry out menus as scheduled.
• Maintain a timeline for delivery of all meals and services.
• Food preparation, serving, and clean up/dishes as scheduled, with special attention given to allergies and dietary needs.
• Delivery of hospitality gifts or snacks as scheduled around the camp.
• Maintain controls related to portion and inventory.
• Secure food after each meal to aid in pest control.

 

2. Facilities
• Maintain standards for food handling and sanitation.
• Sweep & mop as scheduled or assigned.
• Check bathrooms before and after each dining hall event; quick clean as necessary and deep clean and mop daily.
• Wash and fold laundry during every shift.
• Report equipment-related concerns or needs to the Assistant Manager: Hospitality.
• Provide Data to Assistant Manager: Hospitality in regards to how many were served at each meal and any other relevant data as requested.

 

3. General Camp Duties
• Extend Christian hospitality and welcome to guests, campers, and staff.
• Respond to guest needs in a timely manner.
• Assist with summer program needs as assigned.
• Engage in consistent communication with the Assistant Manager: Hospitality.
• Serve as guest group host.
• Be aware of risks and hazards around the site and respond accordingly to ensure the site is safe for guests and staff.
• Communicate maintenance, repair, and risks with the assistant site manager or site manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Support the vision, mission, and core values of the IGRC of the UMC.

2. Deep Christian faith consistent with the UMC.

3. Energy and passion for camping and retreat ministries out-of-doors.

4. Ability to take initiative, self-manage, and discern the hospitality needs of the camp.

5. Ability to communicate with, supervise, and respectfully work with diverse audiences of all ages.

6. Possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license or ability to obtain one.  

7. Possess or is willing to obtain certifications in CPR/First Aid, Food Handler/Serve Safe.

8. Demonstrate ability to work individually and within a team.
