In conjunction with the challenge for all United Methodists in the Illinois Great Rivers Conference to read through the Bible in the next year beginning Aug. 1, Bishop Gregory V. Palmer and the Cabinet are pleased to announce that every local church pastor and the lay leader of every congregation will be gifted with a copy of the Common English Bible. Resources were made available that will allow this gift to highlight the call to read the Word and to highlight the new Common English Bible. Thanks to the vision of leadership of the United Methodist Publishing House not only were we able to purchase these Bibles at a significant cost reduction but an opportunity for everyone to purchase one and to receive an introductory price has been made available. 

 

District Superintendents are making plans for the distribution of these Bibles to their pastors and the lay leader of each local church right now. Every district’s process for dispersing the Common English Bible will differ at the discretion of the District Superintendent. Our hope and prayer is that this next year you might see pick up the Word of God and begin to mediate on it day and night. It will be good for our soul and good for equipping us to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
