11 IGRC Students Receive UM Scholarships, Loans

NASHVILLE – A total of 11 seminary and university students from the Illinois Great Rivers Conference have been awarded a total of $13,900, to assist in their educational pursuits.
Funding for the scholarships and United Methodist loans are derived from the United Methodist Student Day offering, which is one of six Special Sunday offerings. Although it can be celebrated at any time of the year, most United Methodist churches celebrate United Methodist Student Day on the Sunday following Thanksgiving.
Those students from the Illinois Great Rivers Conference receiving funds for the 2012-2013 school year are:
- Thomas Alexander, Special Seminary Scholarship, $2,000, attending Candler School of Theology. Alexander is a member of Pawnee UMC
- Andrew Black, Special Seminary Scholarship, $2,000, attending Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. Black is a member of Springfield Jerome UMC.
- Erin Totten, Special Seminary Scholarship, $2,000, attending Wesley Theological Seminary. Totten is a member of Galesburg First UMC.
- Bethany Hutchens, United Methodist General Scholarship, $1,500, attending Candler School of Theology. Hutchens is a member of Mattoon First UMC.
- Jarred Leeper, Rev. Dr. Karen Layman Gift of Hope Scholarship, $1,000, attending Milliken University. Leeper is a member of Decatur Sharon UMC.
- Joseph Woodard, Rev. Dr. Karen Layman Gift of Hope Scholarship, $1,000, attending Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Woodard is a member of Goreville UMC.
- Kathryn Herath, Rev. Dr. Karen Layman Gift of Hope Scholarship, $1,000, attending McKendree University. Herath is a member of Mossville UMC.
- Daniel Mauer, Baxter, Roelfson, Sands Scholarship, $1,000, attending Illinois Wesleyan University. Mauer is a member of Forrest UMC.
- Rhoda Warner, Ethnic Minority Scholarship, $1,000, attending McKendree University. Warner is a member of Springfield Grace UMC.
- Thaddeus Lolling, Ethnic Minority Scholarship, $800, attending Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Lolling is a member of Springfield Laurel UMC.
- Marissa Delgado, Ethnic Minority Scholarship, $600, attending Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Delgado is a member of Fairview Heights Christ UMC.
