Food Assistance Grants offered to local churches

Our local church food pantries and feeding programs are a key distribution point for hunger relief efforts in our communities. We want to support their ongoing operation and encourage other churches to join them in food assistance ministries.

For United Methodist Churches with Food Banks or Feeding Programs

The Board of Global Ministries will provide a $500 grant to any IGRC United Methodist Church that is operating or partnering with a food pantry, food bank, or feeding ministry.

How to apply:

  1. Grant applications will be received during the month of May 2020.
  2. Grant applications can be sent to Christy Blickensderfer (cblickensderfer@("@")igrc.org).
  3. Grant application is very simple and should include:
    1. Name and address of church requesting grant
    2. Name and email of person completing grant request
    3. Picture of your church’s food assistance ministry
    4. A short paragraph (of at least three sentences) that describes how your church’s food assistance ministry is continuing to serve your community.

For All Other United Methodist Churches

The Board of Global Ministries will provide up to a $500 grant to any IGRC United Methodist Church to match local church mission funds distributed through grocery cards given to people in their communities.

How to apply:

  1. Grant applications will be received during the month of May 2020.
  2. Grant applications can be sent to Christy Blickensderfer (cblickensderfer@("@")igrc.org).
  3. Grant application is very simple and should include:
    1. Name and address of church requesting grant
    2. Name and email of person completing grant request
    3. Amount of grant request (up to $500 to match church’s funding)
    4. Picture of the grocery gift cards being distributed to your community
    5. A short paragraph (of at least three sentences) that describes the amount and how your church’s food assistance grocery gifts cards distribution ministry is serving your community.

How you can help support our churches’ food banks and feeding programs

The Board of Global Ministries is inviting local churches to contribute to our IGRC Disaster Response Fund (Advance #6800) to support this emergency assistance to our churches’ food assistance ministries. This fund provides emergency assistance to a wide variety of disaster response across our state. If we receive funding beyond our expenditures, the Board will consider a second round of emergency assistance in the Fall.
