The Illinois School for the Deaf (ISD) was founded in 1839 and has been educating deaf and hard of hearing students from all over the state of Illinois for 182 years! Deafness is a low incidence disability; therefore, the majority of ISD students have not had the opportunity to participate in athletic or academic competitions or enjoy social activities with peers like themselves until attending ISD. Monies received from the United Methodist Foundation and the Fultz Trust have been life changing for ISD students. The monies have provided students the opportunity to travel to other deaf schools around the nation, to meet, socialize, and compete in sports and academic competitions with their peers.
Thank you,
Julee Nist
