QUINCY -- As you enter the front door of Sunset Home in Quincy, you immediately enter into God’s presence as you are welcomed and embraced by the loving arms of a spiritually committed staff.
More than 127 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pfeiffer were led by God to open their home as shelter for the elderly that needed loving care in their final years. Later the gift of the Pfeiffer’s home coupled with God’s vision of a place where the aging population could live their senior years in a community within the love, care and compassionate arms of Jesus, was accepted and embraced by the St. Louis German Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church becoming the basis of what we know now as Sunset Home.
Today, Sunset Home is a non-profit Golden Cross ministry delivering all levels of senior care in a Christian environment including Skilled Nursing, Intermediate Care, Short-Term Rehabilitation, two Independent Living communities, plus has the largest State Certified Alzheimer’s Unit in Southern Illinois. As we continue to serve in faith, over half of our residents are financially unable to pay the full cost of their care.
It is our relationship with the people of The United Methodist Church that sets Sunset Home apart from other senior care communities. Sunset was birthed from the vision of one couple in 1886; responding to the need around them through the love of Jesus Christ to care for the least and the lost through Jesus’ command, “When you have done it unto the least of these, you have done it unto me…” (Matthew 25:40)
All these years later the need is still mighty. The need is urgent. The need is real.
We are appealing to all the people in the IGRC to hear the command of Jesus by reaching out with resources to the people of Sunset Home; allowing Sunset to sustain our important mission of Sharing the Love of Jesus Christ through Life in a Caring Community. You and your church can help provide the needed funds undergirded by Spiritual principles and values.
Thank you for your prayers and your gifts given in God’s name.
