The Rev. H. Margaret "Peggy" McDowell, 73, of Rantoul died on Saturday (April 4, 2015) with her children by her side.She was born in Highland Park on Feb. 13, 1942.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Marian Kehrwald.
She is survived by her husband, Paul McDowell; her sister, Roberta (Gary) Lieder; her son, Mark Richards; daughters, Renee Richards and Teresa (Tom) Schoffelman; stepdaughters, Kim (Dan) Coffey and Kari Kells; and grandchildren, Savannah Pollock, Megan Richards, Brandt and Aaron Schoffelman; and step-grandchildren, Sean and Abby Coffey.
After raising her children, Peggy worked as a high school teacher for 10 years before entering seminary and joining the ministry. She served Methodist churches in Walnut Grove, Viola, Saybrook and Arrowsmith before retiring. She continued to serve the church in many capacities after that time.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 6, at Wesbein United Methodist Church, 113 N. Center St., Saybrook. A celebration of her faith and life will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Guy Keysear officiating.
