Georgia G. Hartman, age 101 of Mt. Carroll, IL, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll, IL.
Georgia was born May 22, 1914 in Story County, IA; the daughter of George and Ruth (Bennethum) Hopper. At the age of four, her mother died and she was raised by Elmer and Bertha Stahlman. She graduated from Aurora High School in Aurora, IL and attended Aurora College.
On June 8, 1939, Georgia married Rev. Robert Hartman in Plainfield, IL. Together they served five Evangelical/Methodist churches in Illinois: six years at Ransom, four years at Rock Grove, eight years in Stockton, eleven years in Shannon, and ten years in Washington. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school classes and Fellowship groups. She was always active in Home Extension groups and taught many arts and crafts groups. She was very talented in sewing, even making many wedding gowns. Also, she was a well known artist in northern Illinois, painting with both oil and water colors. Her greatest joy was being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
For the past six years, since her 95th birthday, she has been a resident at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll. On May 22nd she celebrated her 101st birthday.
Georgia will be deeply missed by her three sons, David (Sandra) Hartman of Bowling Green, KY, Daniel (Calista) Hartman of Polo, and Robert (Bryclynn) Hartman, Jr. of Mt. Carroll; six grandchildren, Daniel Hartman, Jr., Angela Sheddan, Timothy Hartman, Steven Hartman, Scott Hartman, and Jamie McMillin; and eleven great grandchildren.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 ½ year old daughter, three sisters, and one brother.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 1:30 pm at Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon, IL. There will be a visitation before the service starting at 12:30 pm. Interment will take place at the Brethren Cemetery in Shannon. A memorial fund has been established for Good Samaritan in Mt. Carroll.
