Ruth Evelyn Mann, 82, of Machesney Park passed away Monday, April 28th, 2014, in her home, with her family by her side, after a long illness. Born April 4, 1932, in Vienna, Missouri, daughter to Thomas A. and Vera R. Hawkins. With her six sisters and two brothers, her early days were spent living in a large log cabin with a tin roof in rural Missouri. There she met her new pastor and future husband, Charles W. Mann, and on June 10, 1951, they were married. Being the wife of a United Methodist Pastor means a life of continual moving and making new friends. They served in more than 10 churches across Missouri and Illinois, 6 with building programs, raising their 4 children along the way. The last church they served before retirement was the Galesburg United Methodist Church. In her final years, she and Charles were active in several Rockford area churches including Aldersgate UMC. Her greatest joys were her family and being the best pastor's wife she could be. She is survived by her husband, Charles; children, Toni Werner of Alcoa, TN, Charles, Jr. (Robin) Mann of Belvidere, Howard Mann of Machesney Park and Bruce (Tammy) Mann of Phoenix, Arizona. She had 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. In honor of her wishes, the family will have a private memorial service at her final resting place in Vienna-Radar outside the small church where she was married in Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be established. Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory is honored to have assisted the family.
