Frank Thomas Hanzel, 70, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully in the arms of his Lord and Savior on December 6, 2019, at his residence. He was born June 22, 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Frank Regis and Dorothy (Beiber) Hanzel. On March 22, 1969, Tom married Patti Williams in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Tom was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He moved to Mt. Carmel to work at the Wabash Coal Mine and retired after 18 years in 1996. He was a minister beginning at New Life Fellowship in Mt. Carmel for fifteen years, pastored three churches in Lancaster and was presently co-pastoring with his wife, Patti, at Mt. Zion and Browns Chapel in Albion, Illinois. Tom was the kindest, humblest Christian person you could ever meet. He was a great role model for his family and friends—a fantastic husband, wonderful father, loving Papaw and a devout Pittsburgh Steeler fan. Left to cherish Tom’s memory is his wife Patti of 50 years; children, Dawn Michelle Hanzel and fiancé J.D. Robinson of Lexington, Kentucky, Shawna Kristin Turpin and husband Eddie of Linton, Indiana, and Thomas Eric and wife Kristi Hanzel of Raleigh, North Carolina; stepmother, Carolyn Hanzel; grandchildren, Christian, Jordan, Noah and Jonah Ricketts, Marissa (Jesse) Lipscomb, Haley Hanzel, Taylor, Isabella and Brooklyn Hanzel; step grandchildren, Jesika, Damian, Taryn and Cameron Turpin; great grandson, Remington Lipscomb; siblings, Dorothy Will, Carolyn Forsythe, Robert Hanzel, Mickie Irwin, Frank Hanzel and Erik Hanzel; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents. Per Tom’s wishes, he will be cremated, and a memorial service will follow at a later date. Memorials in memory of Tom Hanzel, %First Bank, P.O.
