Marie (Parsons) Lyell passed away December 8, 2010 at the age of 99. Marie was born on September 23, 1911 in Creal Springs, Illinois. For the past 19 years Marie has received loving and devoted care while she lived with her daughter Mona (Lyell) Wollard in Pensacola, Florida. Marie & Leroy lived for many years in Chittyville until they moved to their home on 20th street in Herrin. Marie was married for 58 years to Rev. Leroy Lyell who worked for many years at the Zeigler Coal Mine as well as being a United Methodist Pastor. During the many years Leroy served as Pastor in the United Methodist Church in Southern Illinois Marie worked closely at his side in service to their Lord. Together, Leroy and Marie served the following appointments in Southern Illinois: Dow, Calhoun, Browns, Pinkstaff, Central City, and Walnut Hill. Marie will be best remembered by her beautiful smile and gentle spirit, as well as her wonderful baking and cooking skills. .
She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Mona (Lyell) Wollard & her husband Edward and Alice (Lyell) Baugh & her husband Roy, eight grandchildren, James Monroe, Gregory Monroe, Christian Vollmer, Cynthia Baldauf, Kevin Baugh, Amanda Hessel, eighteen great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren.
Her parents Albert & Mahala Parsons preceded her in death, as well as her two brothers, Reverend Vernon Parsons, Leamon Parsons, and her sister Edith (McPherron) Slusher.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Children’s Home, 2023 Richview Road, Mt. Vernon, Illinois 62864-2884.
Services are as follows: visitation: Monday, December 13, 2010 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Funeral: Monday, December 13, 2010 1:00 PM. All services will be at the Van Natta Funeral Home, 427 South Park, Herrin, Illinois.
