Rev. Norman C. Sloan, age 79 of Makanda, died at 4:15 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2013 at his home in rural Makanda. He was born June 17, 1934 in Dexter, IN, the son of Charles J. and Ruth (Park) Sloan. He married Mildred Fox on December 6, 1953.
Norm is survived by his loving wife, Mildred “Millie” Sloan of rural Makanda; sons, James (Jamileh) Sloan of Effingham, Paul (Natalie) Sloan of Buncombe; grandchildren, Leah and Shawn Sloan; step grandchildren, Keri, Damian and Jamie; two brothers, Bill Holloway of Robinson and Harold (Carolyn) Sloan of Summer. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Charles “Chuck” Sloan.
Norm was a retired pastor and member of the Illinois Great Rivers Annual Conference. Norm and his wife Millie were the first clergy couple in the Former Southern Illinois Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He had served numerous charges before he retired in 1996. He served the Powers United Methodist Church near Metropolis for 8 ½ years retiring a second time in 2011.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1968. Norm held a lifetime membership with the Masons.

According to his wishes, Norm was cremated, his cremains will be scattered at the farm that he enjoyed for so many years. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the Anna United Methodist Church with Pastor Brett Yates, Rev. Ted Frost and Rev. Donna Blythe officiating. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. and until the service hour at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the Anna United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Anna United Methodist Church, Hospice of Southern Illinois, or the S.I.P.S.G. for Parkinson’s research. Envelopes will be available at the church and at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
