Mary Mathis Treat, 95, passed away at 1:45 pm Thursday January 7, 2010 at her granddaughter's home.
Mary was born Dec. 1, 1914 in Johnston County to Ben and Frannie Mathis.
She married Joe Wesley Treat on Dec. 1, 1933; he preceeded her in death August 18, 1982.
Mary and Joe served 30 years in the ministry through the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her sister, Sarah (Mathis) Treat of Cypress, four children, Dr Robert Treat and wife Betty of Moro, Shirley Dickerson and husband Alfred of Hurst, Kay Small and husband Tom of Birmingham AL, and Larry Treat and wife Carolyn of Ferris Texas; eight grandchildren, Rob and wife Cathy of Hurst, Lisa Jennings and husband Harlan of Johnston City, Kim Light and husband David of Vestava Hills AL, Kevin Small and wife Heather of Clay AL, Rodney Treat and wife Christie of Arlington, Texas and Wesley Treat of Dallas Texas; eighteen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe, three brothers, John, Jake and George Mathis; and an infant sister, Vera Beatrice.
The family offers their heartfelt thanks to Jamie Rea for loving and caring for grandma, to Dr Kevin Oestmann and his staff for going the 100 miles and to Hospice of Southern Illinois Blue Team.
Services will be at Walker Funeral Home in Hurst. Burial in Blairsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Mary's name to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
