Ferne L. Purdy Phillips, 90, departed this life Friday, April 9, 2010, in Mount Vernon.
Ferne was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Creal Springs, the daughter of Earl and Nola (Holmes) Edmondson. She graduated from Johnston City High School.
She married the Rev. Edgar Blaine Purdy on Oct. 14, 1936. He passed away Sept. 13, 1967.
On June 30, 1974, she married the Rev. Steve Phillips. Together they owned and managed the Lot-O-Savings Store on Main Street in West Frankfort. He passed away March 19, 1990.
On March 20, 1993, she married the Rev. Rudolph Orr; he passed away May 1, 1995.
She is survived by sons, Dr. Jack Purdy of West Frankfort, Bruce Purdy and wife, Sarah, of Woodbridge, Va.; daughters, Janice Lawrence of Tucson, Ariz., and Beth Saxton and husband, Dan, of West Frankfort; five stepchildren; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two brothers; one sister; daughter-in-law, Judy Purdy; son-in-law, Dale Lawrence; and great-great-grandson, Tyler Lawrence.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010, in Rose Hill Cemetery at Marion, with the Rev. Dave Utley officiating. Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Sunfield Methodist Church and will be accepted at Varis-Stone Funeral Home in West Frankfort. Varis-Stone Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
