Reverend Oliver F. Taube, 90, of Quincy passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 in Sunset Home in Quincy.
Reverend Taube was born on July 29, 1923 in Whitewater, Wisconsin to the late Henry E. and Esther A. (Jansen) Taube. He married Carol Marie Ord on November 10, 1951 in the Mascoutah Methodist Church in Mascoutah. Carol passed away on September 30, 2011.
He proudly served his Country in the United States Marine Corp. He served with the 8th Marine division during World War Two in Guadal Canal. He left the service attaining the rank of Sargent. Reverend Taube worked in Research and Supply with F.S. and Cargill before joining active ministry with the Methodist Church. He was the minister at West Point and Stillwell Methodist churches before becoming pastor at the United Methodist Church in Loraine. He also acted as Chaplain at Sunset Home in Quincy.
He gave his last sermon on November 15, 2013, at the age of 90. He was a lifetime member of the Lincoln, IL. Masonic Lodge Number 210, a member of the Loraine Lions Club and was very active in civic affairs. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing.
Surviving are: five children, Steven (Shirley) Taube of Highpoint, WI, Sharon Taube (Hugo Butz) of Sandy, UT, DeEtta Taube (Ed Myers) of San Jose, CA, Barbara (Michael) Obert of Quincy, Bruce Taube of Roscoe; six grandchildren, Shannon (David) Gagnon, Seija (Nathan) Swartz, Hannah Taube, Mandy (Cory) Andrews, Brett Obert, Meghan Obert; six great-grandchildren, Logan and Gavin Swartz, Gabriella Gagnon, Suzana Andrews, Rebekah Andrews, Gabriel Andrews; one sister, Marie L.(Jim) Hufhand of Sebring, FL. He was preceded in death by one brother, John “Jay” Taube.
Services will be 10:00 A.M Thursday, January 2, 2014 in the Vermont Street United Methodist Church in Quincy with Reverend Dr. Scott Grulke and Reverend Gary Livesay officiating. Private interment will be in Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions have been suggested to the United Methodist Church of Loraine or the Haven at Sunset Home.
