Jonathan Dixon


Rev. Dr. Jonathan L. Dixon, 67, of Riverton died at 10:55 pm, Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born September 11, 1947, the sixth of eight children, to George and Frances Murphy Dixon. He grew up in Kansas, Colorado and New Mexico. He married Ellen L. Trice on August 8, 1970.

Rev. Dr. Dixon received his Bachelor’s Degree at New Mexico State University and his Masters of Divinity at Western Evangelical Seminary and Masters of Philosophy and PhD in Historical Theology at St. Louis University.

He served churches in New Mexico and Illinois and finished his career at Riverton United Methodist Church. He also served as a Professor at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL for eleven years and recently was Adjunct Professor of Philosophy and World Religions at Lincoln Land Community College.

He and Ellen have three children, Jonathan L Dixon (Partner Michael Cook) of Chicago, Rebekah Dixon of Winston-Salem, NC and Rachel Dixon (Partner: Abby Fitch) of Peoria; six grandchildren, Cassandra, Keenan, Baxter, Merissa, Ben and Cabrina; three great grandchildren, Chloe, A’Genesis and Bryson, all of whom survive him.

He is also survived by five sisters, Carol Morgan of TX, Joyce Jacobs of NC, Marge (DuWayne) Fischer of TX, Phyllis (Manuel) Lopez of CA and Linda (Dennis) Dominiak of AZ; one brother, David (Linda) Dixon of KS and several nieces and nephews.

His parents and one sister, Bernice preceded him in death.

Memorial Gathering: 4 -7 pm, Friday, April 10, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home.

Memorial Service: 10 am, Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Terry Harter officiating. Burial will follow at Riverton United Methodist Church Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Rosemary Dixon Scholarship fund at Central Christian College, PO Box 1403, McPherson, KS 67460, where Jonathan and Ellen met or to Riverton United Methodist Church.
