Thoburn Enge

Rev. Thoburn Enge, 93, formerly of Canton, died at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Meadows Mennonite Home in Chenoa.

He was born on June 5, 1921, in Veblen, South Dakota, to Ernest and Inez Nichols Enge. He married Nelda Brill on June 9, 1946, in Belleville, Ill. She preceded him in death on February 27, 1999, in Canton. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Inez Yvonne Enge.

Thoburn spent over 40 years dedicating himself to the ministry. He was a Methodist pastor serving in Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin. His last pastorate was serving the Evangelical Methodist Church in Canton. He later attended First Presbyterian Church in Normal. He loved to watch and feed birds. Thoburn especially loved dogs, photography and woodworking.

Thoburn is survived by three children, Stephen Enge of Plainwell, Mich., David Enge of Canton, and Philip Enge of Normal. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Eric Benjamin Enge and Jean Marie (John) Doglio.

There will be a funeral service for Thoburn on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Normal. Pastor Larry Gaylord and Rev. Kelley Becker will officiate. There will be a visitation from 5-7 p.m., Monday, March 30, 2015, at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington. Interment will take place in Canton, Ill., at White Chapel Memorial Gardens
