Anne Kovalcik

Anne Loyd Kovalcik raced into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday morning July 21, 2020 in Decatur, IL. Her humble servant heart remains, in this world with everyone she knew and loved. In sadness, we say goodbye only for a moment and with Joyful hearts we look forward to an eternal reunion.

Anne was a proud graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University where she met and married Rev. John F. Kovalcik in 1969. Together they raised two sons, Andrew (49) and Timothy (46). She served faithfully, alongside John, as he pastored many United Methodist Churches in Central Illinois. She was co-founder of Epworth Springs Athletic Camp and was the principle architect of its organization from 1974 – 1982. The family moved to Eureka Springs, Arkansas in 1983, where Anne and John built Kairos Retreat Center. They ministered there together, teaching and touching many lives. She was a lay leader for dozens of Walk-to-Emmaus and Hearts-Ablaze retreats. Also, in that time she was the manager of SonShine Bookstore and the Great Passion Play gift shop.

Anne was a voracious reader, and she passed that gift to her four dear grand-children, Kaley (18), Emmery (16), Isaiah (14) and Sara (12). She was a person of many talents, especially cross-stitch, but her greatest passion was her fierce loyalty for all of her family and friends. She wanted little, had less, but gave to the world more than it could offer.

She was preceded in death by her husband John and her mother and father, Valeria and Dr. Rev. W. Harold Loyd. She is survived by her beloved sister, Marti Loyd, of Decatur, IL; her wonderful brother John Loyd of Asheville, North Carolina; her loving sons, precious daughter-in-law (Helene Kovalcik) and priceless grandchildren, all from Decatur, IL.

Services will be 5:30 PM, Saturday, August 8, 2020 at The Pointe, 4202 West Rt 36, Decatur, IL. The service will be outdoors to support social distancing and CDC Guidelines. All are welcome. Rev. Bruce Weiman will be officiating.

Memorials: Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1360 W. Main St, Decatur, IL 62522-1948.
