Betty Katherine Bryant, 86 of Edwardsville, Illinois passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at The Baptist Home in Ironton, Missouri.
Betty was born on September 3, 1931 in Plumville, Kentucky; the daughter of the late Andrew Taylor Sweet and Birdie Mae (Elliott) Daniels. Betty was a second grade teacher in the Ashley Illinois School District and was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church in Glen Carbon where she was a member of the adult choir and United Methodist Women. Betty served in 11 churches as the pastor’s wife over 40 years. Her greatest joy was her family and she will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.
Betty is survived by and will be missed by her children; David Andrew (Kathy) Bryant of Edwardsville, Illinois, Paula Kay Gibson of Arnold, Missouri, Mary Joy Curry of Cedar Park, Texas; grandchildren, Jenny Marie (John) Marshall, Christopher Adam (Amanda) Lewis, Alan Lloyd Curry Jr., Nicholas Alan Curry; great-grandchildren, Zoe Elizabeth Lewis, Wesley Daniel Lewis, Tobias Patrick Lewis; sister, Jean Humphreys; brother, Donald (Margaret) Sweet and many other close family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Reverend Paul David Bryant, whom she married on September 8, 1957, and who passed away on February 26, 2011; son-in-law, Daniel P. Gibson; sister, Edith Sands
In celebration of Betty’s life, visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. at New Bethel United Methodist Church, 131 N. Main Street in Glen Carbon with Dr. Penelope Barber and Dr. Ronald Mackey officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials are suggested to the Preacher’s Aid Society and Benefit Fund. Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon is serving the family.
