Keith Carl Ferguson, 77, of Normal, passed away Monday (June 17, 2019) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
His service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomington, with visitation preceding the service. The Rev. Sara Isbell will preside. Keith was born July 17, 1941, near Bowman, N.D., to Carl and Evelyn (Van Meter) Ferguson. He was a graduate of Jamestown College (North Dakota), Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary (Evanston), and McCormick Theological Seminary (Chicago). He married Barbara Pratt on June 17, 1966, in Delaware, Ohio. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, David (Laura) Ferguson, with grandchildren Ella and Xavier, of Indiana, Pa.; daughter, Amy (Logan) Blewett of Paducah, Ky.; sister, Reva (Wayne) Friez, Sioux Falls, S.D.; and six nieces and nephews.
He served as a United Methodist minster for 55 years. He began his ministry in North Dakota in Hillsboro before serving in the following towns in Illinois: Streator, Donovan, Iroquois, Decatur, Kankakee, Tremont, Chillicothe, and most recently as pastor of visitation at Wesley UMC, Bloomington. In addition to his service in the ministry, he served as a volunteer firefighter, ambulance driver, and as a hospital and scout camp chaplain.
He also worked with CROP hunger walks, Walk to Emmaus, and numerous international mission trips. He was fond of camping, and will be remembered for his kind and loving presence, and the way that he elevated common human decency in daily interactions.
