Walter Storey

Walter Glen Storey, 88, died on January 22, 2023 in St. Louis, Missouri. Walter is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, who died on December 24, 2022. Walter and Ruth were married for 66 years. Walter was born in Enfield, Illinois on October 12, 1934 to Robert Elcie and Violet (Walters) Storey. Walter graduated high school in Enfield, Illinois then attended McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois. Walter and Ruth met in the summer of 1953 at a summer camp for church youth group leaders that was held at McKendree College. Walter and Ruth married in 1956 and moved to Dallas, Texas so Walter could attend seminary at Southern Methodist University. Walter obtained his master of divinity degree and became an ordained United Methodist minister, and Ruth graduated from North Texas University with a teaching degree. Walter served as pastor in United Methodist churches for 15 years in Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, and England. Walter and Ruth eventually moved their family to a farm near Walter’s home town of Enfield, Illinois, where Ruth and Walter became real estate brokers and started their own real estate and construction business. Then Walter used his knowledge of farming and real estate to create a thriving business as a real estate broker specializing in farmland.

Walter’s wife Ruth went to seminary later in life and became an ordained United Methodist minister. Walter was very supportive of Ruth as she pastored churches in the St. Louis area from 1991 until 2006 when she retired.

Walter loved working on his organic farm in southern Illinois, flying his airplane, traveling internationally with Ruth, and spending time with family. In addition, Walter and Ruth led many church mission trips to Russia throughout the years. In retirement, Walter and Ruth split their time between their farm in Illinois and their home in St. Louis. As recently as a year ago, Walter purchased an electric vehicle and became an unofficial evangelist for electric vehicles, often trying to convince friends and family members to “go electric.”

Walter is preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruth, and his parents Robert Elcie and Violet (Walters) Storey.
