Stepping Up to Supervision with Rev. Susan Beaumont

Supervision of Staff in a Church - What’s Unique About That? This webinar will explore the tension between the covenantal relationship that members of the congregation have with one another and the employment relationship that members have with staff. It will examine the confusion that emerges in combining these two relationships side by side.

The IGRC Cabinet and the Office of Congregational Development are sponsoring this webinar to equip pastors in their role as supervisor of staff.

Rev. Beaumont will equip participants with practical skills to supervise the work of others.

Participants in this online course will:

  • Develop an understanding of supervision as performance management
  • Understand the importance of a job description and learn how to design one
  • Explore techniques for setting performance expectations
  • Distinguish between 3 types of feedback conversations: the ongoing check-in, the quarterly goals update and the annual performance appraisal
  • Learn to hire right, so that managing becomes easier
  • Practice writing performance goals
  • Learn to deal with the chronic underperformer
  • Explore the process of progressive discipline, leading to termination

Participating pastors are encouraged to have one or two members of the church SPRC participate in the Tuesday morning session.

The cost is $200 for each pastor (Tuesday morning participation by SPRC members with their pastor is free). There is an early registration $75 discount for those who register and pay by August 12, 2021. Once payment is made, refunds will not be available, but all paid registrants will have access to the recordings of the sessions.
